Orban: The EU Should Not Give Instructions to Russia and the U.S. While Performing the 'Putin Puppet' Melody

The European Union should not give instructions to the leaders of Russia and the United States or set conditions for their meeting. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, explaining why he did not join the common statement of EU leaders regarding the upcoming negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

“Just four days before the historic summit between Presidents Trump and Putin, the European Council attempted to make a statement on behalf of all the heads of state and government of the EU. While the liberal mainstream choir prepares to perform their beloved latest version of the 'Putin Puppet' melody, I have decided to explain why I cannot support this statement on behalf of Hungary,” he said.

“They are trying to set conditions for a meeting to which the EU leaders are not invited. Second, the fact that the EU is excluded is quite sad in itself,” said the Prime Minister.

Orban added that the EU's attempts to “give advice from the outside” could only complicate the situation. “The only reasonable action for EU leaders is to initiate an EU-Russia summit based on the example of the U.S.-Russia meeting. Let’s give peace a chance,” Orban concluded.
