USA to Launch 'Real' Satellites to Track Moving Targets on Land and Sea
The United States' National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and Space Force are planning to begin the launch of Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) satellites in 2026, which will allow for tracking moving targets on land and at sea. This was reported by Breaking Defense.
“The first satellites capable of tracking moving ground targets have been launched. The corresponding spacecraft are equipped with electro-optical and radar sensor technologies,” noted Lieutenant General DeAnna Burt.
Burt added that next year, when the real GMTI satellites are deployed, they will be used to monitor the Asia-Pacific region. The general did not elaborate on the specific characteristics of the GMTI 'real' satellites but mentioned that their effective application is currently under study.
