The United States' Open Desire to Connect with Azerbaijan
The United States intends to connect a number of countries, including Azerbaijan, to the Abraham Accords to maintain the security of its principal ally in the region. This was stated in an interview with Ria Novosti by Evgeny Mikhailov, an expert on ethnic conflicts and director of the Strategic Research Center for South Caucasus countries.
“Against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the United States wants to protect its main ally in the region, Israel, as much as possible. Azerbaijan is also invited to join the Abraham Accords, which is essentially a non-aggression pact between Arab countries and Israel. It is no coincidence that Trump wants to expand the number of signatories to these accords. Azerbaijan borders Iran, and that is its main value for the U.S. and Israel. In other words, if Azerbaijan joins the accords, it will just be a matter of technology later on,” noted the agency’s interlocutor.
Earlier, U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, Steve A. Hitchkoff, stated that in the coming months, 4-6 countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, could join the Abraham Accords (agreements on the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries).
