Landslide, Evacuation: Lars Closed for All Types of Vehicles

According to information received from the Department of Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Crisis Management Center of the Russian Emergency Ministry in North Ossetia, the Stepantsminda-Lars highway is closed for all types of vehicles. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia.

According to Georgian media, a landslide occurred in the area of the Georgian-Russian land border. An evacuation has been declared at the Dariali checkpoint. The level of the Terek River is high. The operation of the Kazbegi checkpoint has also been temporarily halted.

“Authorities, customs service, border police, and all private companies operating at the Dariali border checkpoint have been evacuated. All relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are on-site for monitoring purposes; there are no casualties,” the statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said.
