Harvard Ready to Pay $500 Million to Settle Disputes with Trump Administration

Representatives of Harvard University have expressed their willingness to pay $500 million to settle conflicts with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. This was reported by The New York Times.

According to the information, the amount requested by the U.S. government exceeds the $200 million fine that Columbia University is required to pay to resolve its disputes with the White House.

It is noted that Trump demanded Harvard University to pay "significantly more than Columbia." A few months ago, university representatives concluded that even if they won court battles against the U.S. government, this agreement would help Harvard avoid potential new issues with the Trump administration, the NYT reports.

The terms of the agreement remain unknown, the newspaper adds. Trump and his administration representatives have made several statements regarding Harvard and other prestigious American universities. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services canceled $60 million in federal grants intended for Harvard, claiming that the university has failed to address issues of anti-Semitism and ethnic and racial discrimination. The White House also revoked Harvard's permission to accept foreign students. In response, the university filed a lawsuit in federal court in Boston.
