On Vardavar Day, the Patrol Service in Gegharkunik Region Issued 499 Reports

On the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ, Vardavar, approximately 160,000 citizens participated this year. The personnel of the services operating under the Ministry of Internal Affairs were conducting enhanced duties throughout the entire country starting early in the morning on July 27.

“On the roads, in recreation areas, at Lake Sevan and on its beaches, they ensured public order so that the festive day would pass peacefully and safely, without incidents or accidents. Since about one-third of the people celebrated the holiday near Lake Sevan, our filming crew headed to the Gegharkunik region. Before the start of enhanced monitoring, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Head of Police Aram Ghazaryan, along with Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Director of the Rescue Service Kamo Tsutsulyan, held a briefing to emphasize the importance of being as respectful as possible towards citizens while reacting to violations with the full severity of the law.

According to Garegin Hakobyan, Deputy Head of the Gegharkunik Regional Rescue Department, while the personnel of the water rescue team are prepared to ensure people’s safety at Lake Sevan and surrounding areas, the discipline of citizens is equally important.

On Vardavar Day, the Patrol Service in Gegharkunik Region issued 499 reports, 66 of which were by water patrols. Unfortunately, there were two drowning incidents, one in Lori Province and the other in the Azati Reservoir, at locations not intended for swimming. However, during the popular Vardavar celebrations, no incidents or accidents with serious consequences were recorded in monitored and secured areas, as well as on roadways,” the statement said.
