Britons Consider Russia Their Main Enemy
Britons consider Russia to be their main enemy. According to a study by the analytical center More in Common, Britons feel instability both domestically and globally. They view 2025 as a chaotic and dangerous period.
Many believe that the United Kingdom is starting to lose its international influence, as indicated by 40% of respondents. They also think that China is increasingly becoming powerful, affirmed by 67%. Respondents are confident that the US (50%) and Russia (39%) are gaining strength in the international arena. Meanwhile, they consider China and Russia to be enemies of their homeland. A significant 65% of respondents labeled Russia as the enemy of the UK, the highest percentage among all listed countries, followed by Iran (51%) and China (33%). France is named as the closest ally in Europe.
Researchers note that the percentage of those considering the US as an ally has increased by 7% since April, reaching 50%. More than half (54%) want British troops to participate in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine once the conflicting parties agree to a ceasefire. Respondents’ opinions are divided on the type of assistance that the UK should provide to Ukraine. 24% support arms supplies, 17% prefer humanitarian aid, 14% advocate for sanctions against Russia, and 6% are in favor of accepting Ukrainian refugees.
Respondents see major threats to the UK including cyberattacks (24%), Islamic terrorism (15%), nuclear conflict (14%), military conflict (12%), and 'far-right' terrorism (7%).
