American Authorities Arrest Iranian Citizen for Exporting Electronics
U.S. authorities have arrested an Iranian citizen who has been residing permanently in the United States on charges of exporting electronics to his home country in violation of American sanctions. This was reported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“The Iranian citizen, who has been living legally in the United States, has been charged with four counts of federal indictment. He is accused of illegally exporting electronics from the U.S. to Iran, violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and the regulations on transactions with Iran and the application of sanctions (ITSR),” the department stated in a press release.
66-year-old Bahram Mohammad Ostovari was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport. He runs an Iranian engineering company that supplies signaling and communication systems to the Iranian government, including for railways. According to the press release, the Iranian faces up to 20 years in prison.
