Azerbaijani Police Chief of Nizhny Novgorod Airport Arrested in Russia
The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) has arrested Namig Musaev, the Azerbaijani police chief of Nizhny Novgorod Airport. He is suspected of organizing illegal migration.
The police and the FSB detained the airport police chief for assisting illegal migration. Earlier, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reported nearly 7,000 records of violations of migration legislation since the beginning of 2025.
The investigation has revealed that a local resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region had repeatedly "taken actions to avoid holding foreign citizens accountable administratively" for violating the country’s migration laws. The man has involved Nizhny Novgorod airport police officers and other accomplices in illegal activities.
“If their guilt is confirmed, the employees will be dismissed from internal affairs bodies on negative grounds, and all arrested citizens will be punished in accordance with the law,” stated a transport police announcement.
Preliminary information indicates that about 12 police officers participated in the criminal scheme. The article notes that Musaev also had close ties with the Azerbaijani diaspora in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The law prescribes punishments in the form of forced deportation from the country, fines, and the inability to return to the country for a long time.
