Over 18,000 Earthquakes Recorded in Turkey in the First Half of 2025

Ermenihaber.am reports that from January 1 to June 30, 2025, Turkey recorded 18,191 earthquakes. This averages to about 100 earthquakes per day, or roughly 4 per hour.

According to an expert in disaster management in Turkey, there are approximately 1,000 active seismic faults in the country that exhibit seismic activity. The increase in the number of earthquakes is particularly attributed to the 'earthquake storm' recorded around the islands of Santorini and Amorgos during January and February, as well as a magnitude 6.2 earthquake that occurred in Istanbul on April 23.
