A Citizen of Azerbaijan Extradited from Russia: Zakharova
The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, responded on July 2 to a question from an Armenian journalist regarding the abduction of historian and activist Zahyraddin Ibrahimov of Talysh descent, stating that he is a citizen of Azerbaijan and was detained at the request of Baku.
“I would like to remind you that on May 15, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs already commented on this story. As you know, Russian legislation does not provide for the extradition of citizens of the Russian Federation; therefore, Ibrahimov, an Azerbaijani citizen, was extradited at Baku's request,” said Zakharova.
It is noteworthy that he had previously been stripped of his Russian citizenship for illegal activities. Regarding the recent detentions of Russian citizens in Yekaterinburg, law enforcement agencies have noted a criminal case related to these detentions, indicating that the individuals involved have extensive criminal backgrounds. They are suspected of committing serious crimes, including murder.
“I want to draw your attention once again to the fact that this information has been provided by our country’s Investigative Committee,” the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
