Electricity Produced by Armenian Nuclear Power Plant May Become More Expensive
The electricity produced by the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) is currently the cheapest in the country, and as a benefit to ordinary citizens, its sale to businesses is limited.
A new bill is under discussion in Armenia that considers the potential rise in prices for electricity generated by the nuclear plant in the long term. This information was reported by Sputnik Armenia.
Both the nuclear plant and the Sevan-Hrazdan hydro cascade are making significant investments, which are expected to impact their electricity production costs. Currently, the nuclear plant generates the cheapest electricity in the republic; however, the enormous costs associated with the construction of new energy blocks in the future will inevitably raise the price of the product.
According to Ashot Ulikhanyan, head of the customs policy department of the Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia, given these developments, the issue of storing cheaper electricity from the nuclear plant and the Sevan-Hrazdan cascade may lose its relevance.
