Major Fighter Jet Acquisition Deal Between Azerbaijan and Pakistan
Pakistan is selling Azerbaijan 40 fourth-generation JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. This was reported by Forbes.
It is noted that Baku has officially expanded its order of JF-17s from 16 to 40 units. This deal is part of a $4.6 billion defense agreement, which the Pakistani government announced on the X social platform on June 6.
In the post on X, the Pakistani government also mentioned that in addition to the $4.6 billion defense agreement, an agreement for $2 billion in investments has also been reached with Azerbaijan.
Baku will now receive a more updated version of the fighter jets, the JF-17D Block III, which is equipped with active electronically scanned radars and other systems and weapons typically found in 4.5 generation advanced aircraft.
“Additionally, the JF-17 is compatible with several Turkish systems that Azerbaijan already possesses, making it even more attractive,” the analyst added.
