This Will Lead to a Loss of Control Over the Country, Says Putin

The Ukrainian authorities are not discussing the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the conflict, as it would result in a loss of control over the country. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose comments were reported by TASS.

He emphasized the refusal to accept Kyiv's proposal for a temporary ceasefire aimed at providing humanitarian aid to the population. “The situation shows that the current regime in Kyiv has no need for peace at all. For them, establishing peace would mean a loss of power, and it seems that maintaining their positions is more important for the Ukrainian leadership than the well-being of the peaceful citizens, whom they presumably do not see as their own citizens,” Putin noted during a cabinet meeting.

The Russian leader also stated that the incident involving a train in the Bryansk region on the night of June 1 was a “targeted attack” on the Russian civilian population. Amidst the backdrop of Ukrainian attacks, Putin questioned, “How is it possible to hold a summit with terrorists?” and also encouraged them to cease military operations.
