Armenian Catholicos Issues Statement
Upon the initiative of the Armenian Catholicos, the World Council of Churches organized an international conference in Switzerland titled “Religious Freedom: Preserving Armenian Spiritual, Cultural and Historical Heritage in Artsakh.”
During the conference, the Armenian Catholicos announced that Azerbaijan, with military support from Turkey, has committed atrocities, fully displacing Armenians from Artsakh. It has captured significant territories of vital importance along Armenia's borders and continues to present new demands in the peace treaty process.
Azerbaijan is holding the political leaders of Artsakh, civilians, and prisoners of war hostage, subjecting them to display trials in blatant violation of international legal norms.
The General Secretary of the World Council of Churches stated that Christians are called to be witnesses of the truth, which means standing alongside victims and speaking out against evil.
