Employees of Shengavit Administrative District Detained

The joint operational-investigative measures undertaken by the anti-corruption committee of Armenia and the National Security Service have led to the uncovering of a bribery case involving two officials from the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan.

According to the anti-corruption committee, the investigation revealed that the aforementioned individuals, serving as lead specialists in the administration's relevant division, requested a bribe from a representative of an entertainment center. They were aware that the center lacked the necessary permit to operate during nighttime hours and had not paid the local tax of 1 million AMD.

Specifically, the officials did not take any action to record this violation and, in the absence of the mandated payments, solicited a bribe of 600,000 AMD from the center's representative to avoid obstructing its operations until April 15, 2025.

On April 19, 2025, a secret investigative action simulating the receiving and giving of a bribe resulted in the arrest of one of the officials at the moment he received the 600,000 AMD as a bribe. A subsequent search yielded the bribe money from him.

Charges have been brought against two officials from the Shengavit administrative district under Article 435, paragraphs 1, 2, and 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code. One has been placed under house arrest while the other is in custody. The investigation has concluded, and the case materials have been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a request for approval and forwarding to court.
