Don't Be Naive, It's All About Wordplay: Zakharova
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has urged not to believe statements by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding the absence of plans to supply Taurus cruise missiles to the Kyiv regime, suggesting that behind such statements lies the desire to remove the discussion of this issue from public discourse. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
“It seemed that this was a confirmation of Germany's aspiration, as we were led to believe, for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine, intended not only for securing places at the negotiating table with sugar spoons and napkins but for serious negotiations as well. But don’t be naive. It’s all about wordplay. The Chancellor’s task is to remove the topic of supplying long-range missiles from public discussion. As if they don’t exist. And in reality, no one will even know how many units and when Berlin has handed over to the Kyiv regime,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
She highlighted Merz's remarks that the public discussion regarding the transfer of Taurus to Kyiv has supposedly become a strategic advantage for Russia and a strategic disadvantage for Germany.
“This means that for Berlin, the imperative is not peace, but 'aggressive narratives' alongside the destruction of free speech and the legitimacy of making deadly decisions for Europe,” Zakharova concluded.
Earlier, the German Chancellor announced the absence of plans to supply Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Kyiv. He also noted that such a move would require extensive training for military personnel.
