We Do Not Raise This Issue the Way Azerbaijan Does: Pashinyan
There are circles in Azerbaijan that want to close the chapter on the conflict in their territory and transfer it to Armenia. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with an Azerbaijani journalist in Tirana, the capital of Albania. The video of the interview was published on the Prime Minister's Telegram channel.
The Azerbaijani journalist inquired whether the new Constitution of Armenia would reference the Declaration of Independence. Pashinyan responded that the draft of the new Constitution is not yet available. He reminded that according to the conclusion of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, there are no territorial claims against our neighbors in the existing Constitution.
“This is already a legal, documented fact, and it is very important,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
He also addressed another demand from Azerbaijan regarding the signing of a peace agreement—the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. “Regarding the dissolution of the Minsk Group, we have stated that this agenda is acceptable to us; we want to ensure that Azerbaijan's desire is not to close the conflict in its territory and transfer it to Armenia,” said Pashinyan.
In this context, he stated that Yerevan wants to simultaneously sign the peace agreement and address the OSCE regarding the dissolution of the Minsk Group.
He added that this would be a very important step for establishing mutual trust and stability in the region.
Pashinyan noted that they see that Azerbaijan's Constitution includes territorial claims against Armenia. “But we do not raise this issue the way Azerbaijan does. Why? Because we clearly see that this question has already been resolved in the agreed, draft peace agreement. And to resolve this issue and to remove it from the agenda, we simply need to sign the peace agreement and ratify it,” said Pashinyan.
He reminded that Armenia is ready to pursue such a solution.
