US Removes Tariffs on Chinese Smartphones and Technology

The United States is lifting tariffs on computers, smartphones, and chips. Bloomberg reports this citing data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service.

It is noted that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to exempt electronics from reciprocal trade tariffs, which also applies to technology sourced from China that previously faced a 145% tariff.

This decision has been made to prevent inflation amid significant consumer activity, as people began to panic buy out of fear of larger price increases.

Within the framework of Trump's trade war, smartphones, laptops, hard drives, memory chips, computer processors, and machinery for semiconductor production—most of which are imported into the U.S.—have been removed from the list of tariffable goods.
