Changes to the School Principal Appointment Procedure
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia has clarified the changes to the appointment procedure for principals of general education schools.
According to the press release from the ministry, new requirements concerning the principal selection process were approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia on April 3, 2025, under decision No. 363-N. The decision took effect on April 4, 2025, in accordance with the procedure established by the Law on Normative Legal Acts, starting from the day following its official publication.
According to paragraph 37.1 of the decision, if there are four positive conclusions from the commission members, a candidate can be appointed to the position of school principal for a term of five years, with a one-year probation period, in accordance with Article 92, Part 3 of the Labor Code of the Republic of Armenia. This provision applies to interviews that took place on April 4 and to legal relationships arising after that date.
Subparagraph 38.1 stipulates that candidates who have a positive conclusion on the school's development program but have not passed the interview phase twice are required to submit a new development program to participate in the new announced competition. This requirement applies to all competitions announced after April 4.
