Zelensky on the Exchange of Chinese Prisoners
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Beijing of ignoring the recruitment of Chinese citizens fighting on the side of Russia, noting that, in his opinion, the United States is "very surprised" by this revelation.
Zelensky reported that Kyiv has passport details for at least 155 Chinese fighters involved in the war. He stated that although Beijing is aware of its citizens' presence, he does not believe that China has issued any order for them to join the conflict.
The president added that, in his opinion, Russia is conducting the recruitment through social media, including TikTok. He declared that he is ready to exchange captured Chinese soldiers for Ukrainian servicemen held in captivity.
China has dismissed these allegations as "baseless," emphasizing that they contradict its efforts to find a political solution to the war. "The Chinese government has consistently urged its citizens to avoid conflict zones," stated a spokesperson from the Foreign Ministry.
Russia has yet to comment on the information regarding the participation of Chinese citizens.
