Ukrainian Space Forces May Be Established

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has created a space policy department that will organize cooperation between state and private companies, as well as researchers, in collaboration with defense forces and will facilitate the establishment of space forces. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization Yekaterina Chernogorenko.

"We have a law on space activities that states that the Ministry of Defense should shape policy in the field of military space. This is not only about procuring innovative solutions from engineers; it is also about creating a community to bring the best solutions to Ukraine, and also about establishing space forces."

According to her, the defense department aims to become the main customer for space technologies, products, and services in Ukraine. This department is expected to unite state and private entities, along with scientists in the space industry, to cooperate with defense forces.

She added that by 2030, Ukraine plans to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as an air attack warning system and space surveillance capabilities.
