Free Glucose Monitors to be Provided for Children Under 18, Ministry of Health Announces
In a bid to hear the observations and suggestions from parents of children with type 1 diabetes, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan, along with Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan, met with a group of parents. The meeting also included Elena Aghajanyan, the pediatric endocrinology consultant at the Ministry of Health.
Minister Anahit Avanesyan outlined the efforts aimed at improving the management of diabetes. She noted that the 2026 budget plans to provide free continuous glucose monitoring devices for children under 18.
“This is a significant victory when we talk about providing sensors for those under 18 with diabetes. Essentially, this is the only thing that has not yet been done for children with diabetes,” said Elena Aghajanyan.
The entire treatment chain for children with diabetes under 18—including the provision of medications and test strips, and hospitalization when necessary—is covered through state orders. A program to provide free test strips and meters for beneficiaries aged 18 to 28 will commence in the second half of 2025.
The ministers advised parents to submit all suggestions in writing to both ministries before the next meeting.
