Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry States Under What Conditions the Agreement Will Be Ready for Signing

Baku will sign a peace agreement with Yerevan when Armenia "overcomes the existing difficulties." This was announced by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry during a joint press conference with Brazil's Foreign Minister, commenting on the speech of Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

It should be noted that during the press conference with his Brazilian counterpart, Minister Mirzoyan stated that Azerbaijan has not provided a constructive response to Armenia's proposals regarding the unblocking of communications and the control of armaments. Moreover, despite Armenia's willingness to sign a peace agreement, in recent days, Baku has made false accusations regarding violations of the ceasefire.

“If peace is to become a reality, both sides must be committed to creating an atmosphere of trust and dialogue. The resolution of unresolved humanitarian issues, including the release of captives and detained persons, can significantly alleviate the situation in this context,” said Mirzoyan.

In response, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry stated that instead of eliminating the issues that hinder the signing of the peace treaty, “the Armenian side is engaged in manipulation, trying to present Azerbaijan as a country uninterested in peace.” Azerbaijan claims that it is the initiatives taken by them that have allowed for the completion of negotiations on the text of the peace treaty.

“But that in no way means that we will ignore Armenia's continuing claims against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as stated in Armenia's Constitution, as well as Armenia’s actions aimed at protecting the Minsk Group and relevant OSCE structures, which are remnants of the conflict. We once again declare that when Armenia overcomes the present difficulties, the agreement will be ready for signing,” declared Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.

Baku also noted that they are preparing to trial Armenian captives accused of “war crimes and ethnic cleansing,” asserting that it is their “inalienable right.”
