We Have No Intent to Use Them Against Third Parties: Mirzoyan
Indian-made defense equipment is of interest to Armenia; however, there is no intention to use it against third parties. This was stated by Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with WION, emphasizing the key focus on reforming the defense sector.
According to the source, Armenia and India have significantly deepened their cooperation in the defense field in recent years. India has become a primary supplier of military technology to Armenia, and Armenia has acquired Pinaka multi-barrel rocket systems, becoming the first international buyer of purely Indian-produced defense equipment.
“Well, obviously, defense is one of the areas where we work very closely with India. And I assume that this cooperation will continue to deepen. But what I want to emphasize is that this cooperation, and specifically the purchase of certain specific equipment from India, does not have the intention of using it against third parties. You are probably aware that Armenia has a peace agenda. We are conducting peaceful negotiations with our eastern neighbor. But also, in general, we are very focused on establishing peace and stability and resolving relations with our neighbors. Thus, we are in the midst of the process of reforming and modernizing our defense sector, and here, the experience of India, as well as the equipment produced in India, is of interest to us. But again, I want to emphasize that this is for reforming Armenia’s defense system, and there is no intention to use those systems against any other third party,” Mirzoyan said.
