They Understand What This Could Lead to Militarily: Zakharova
The deployment of foreign armed forces in Ukraine is "completely unacceptable" for Russia, even if it concerns a peacekeeping mission, stated Maria Zakharova, representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry. According to her, the United States understands the implications of sending foreign troops to Ukraine and therefore is "keeping itself away" from such plans.
"This would mean that those countries would be involved in direct armed conflict with our country, to which we would respond by all available means. Notably, Washington, at least in words, distances itself from London and Paris's plans to deploy any type of contingent in Ukraine. I believe this is also because they realize what this could lead to militarily," Zakharova said at a press conference.
In the event of a ceasefire, Britain and France have prepared a plan for the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. Up to 30,000 European soldiers are expected to protect Ukraine's infrastructure, cities, and ports.
To implement the initiative, London and Paris have requested limited military assistance from the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump has not given any guarantees and has called for a peace treaty to be signed first. At the same time, he has considered the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine to be a necessary measure "in a way that is acceptable to everyone."
