Greek Defense Minister Denies Transfer of S-300 Systems to Armenia
The Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, has denied reports regarding plans to transfer S-300 air defense systems to Armenia. Dendias responded to a parliamentary inquiry from Kyriakos Velopoulos, the leader of the 'Greek Solution' party, which had been submitted in mid-December 2024.
The inquiry stated that according to several publications, the Ministry of Defense intended to decommission Russian air defense systems, including the S-300s, and replace them with new systems produced in Israel or other countries. Following this, it was reportedly planned to transfer these assets to Armenia's air defense forces within the framework of extensive strategic cooperation with 'France and other partners.'
In response to the relevant question, Dendias stated, 'I would like to inform you that no decision has been made to hand over air defense weapon systems to third countries. In any case, the main criterion of the National Defense Ministry's policy is to maintain the country's defensive capability in full measure at any point within Greece's territory.'
It is worth mentioning that earlier, the enikos.gr portal had reported that Greece would transfer S-300, Tor-M1, and Osa-AKM air defense systems to Armenia.
