What Case Led to the Arrest of Yerevan Municipality Employees

Yesterday, it became known that several employees of the Yerevan Municipality have been arrested. The Anti-Corruption Committee announced that these actions are being carried out within the framework of an ongoing investigation by the committee. This is reported by the "Fact" newspaper.

According to our information, among those arrested are Robert Darbinyan, the former head of the Urban Development and Land Control Department of the Yerevan Municipality, Mikhail Ghimoyan, the head of the Territorial Division No. 2 of the Urban Development and Land Control Department, Aram Gyulzadyan, head of the Public Order Protection Service, and Aram Ayvazyan, deputy head of the Land Control Department, among others.

Significant details related to this matter have also been revealed to "Fact." According to our sources, during one of the first consultations of this year, which was attended by heads of administrative districts and municipality officials, including some of those arrested, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan mentioned that he had received information regarding corrupt practices, particularly in relation to building permits. At the same time, he warned those present that he is cooperating with law enforcement and that if these reports are confirmed, those responsible will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Our source indicates that there was also a discussion on this topic the day before the arrests, during a consultation held on Monday. There was quite a stern conversation, and, according to our information, Avinyan indicated publicly that his suspicions and the information he received seem to be confirmed. "In some cases, it seems that what I said did not reach some people," said the mayor, adding that, most likely, there will be arrests, although he did not mention any names. And just yesterday morning, law enforcement entered the municipality and arrested the aforementioned employees,” the newspaper writes.
