USAID Website Taken Down Amid Trump's Freeze on Foreign Aid

The USAID website has been shut down. According to CNN, as President Donald Trump freezes U.S.-funded foreign aid, mandatory furloughs or layoffs are continuing for dozens of related programs.

Democrats in Congress are expressing concern that Trump may dismantle the USAID as an independent entity and incorporate it into the State Department. They contend that Trump does not have the legal authority to dissolve an independent agency funded by Congress.

As of now, the U.S. is the largest donor of humanitarian aid worldwide. At the same time, America spends less than 1 percent of its budget on foreign aid, which is generally lower than some other countries.
