Trump Orders Release of Documents Related to Kennedy Assassination
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order mandating the release of documents related to the assassination of the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, as well as those concerning his younger brother, former U.S. Attorney General Robert Kennedy, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
The document has been published on the White House website. “I have come to the conclusion that the continued editing and concealment of information related to the assassination of President John Kennedy is not in the public interest, and the time has come for the release of these recordings,” the executive order states.
Trump believes that the release of information regarding the murders of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. “is in the public interest,” despite the fact that no congressional law mandates the release of such data.
According to the document, within 15 days after its publication, the Director of National Intelligence and the U.S. Attorney General, along with the President's National Security Advisor and Counsel, must present the President with a plan for the full release of documents pertaining to the investigation of John Kennedy's assassination.
