Maroian on the Action Against Fare Increase

There is no legislative provision for fining someone 50,000 drams if a Yerevan resident does not pay the increased transportation fare by February 1. This was stated by former Yerevan mayor Hayk Maroian.

The former mayor had previously announced the start of a new action against the increase in public transportation fares and called for a boycott from February 1, urging people to pay only 100 drams.

"At this moment, there is no legal provision for the fine. Therefore, we can peacefully carry out our action. I asked our lawyers, and they checked once more and confirmed that there is indeed no such legislative provision. Moreover, if someone is unexpectedly fined 50,000 drams, we will cover all legal expenses and annul it," he said.
