Armenia to Present New Evidence and Demands to ECHR Regarding Armenian Prisoners in Azerbaijan
The Office of the Representative on International Legal Issues will present necessary additional evidence and demands to the European Court of Human Rights regarding the criminal proceedings against Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan. This was stated in a press release issued by the Office of the Representative on International Legal Issues.
"The ECHR office is monitoring the ongoing trials in Azerbaijan these days. We would like to inform you that necessary additional evidence and demands will be presented to the European Court in accordance with established procedures and deadlines," the announcement said.
It is worth noting that in 2022 and 2024, the Republic of Armenia submitted two interstate complaints to the European Court of Human Rights aimed at protecting the rights to a fair trial, freedom, and personal inviolability of all Armenian prisoners of war and civilians unlawfully accused in Azerbaijan.
On January 17, trials began in Baku against former presidents of Artsakh Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former state minister Ruben Vardanyan, former commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan, former foreign minister David Babayan, former speaker of the National Assembly David Ishkhanyan, and others. Ruben Vardanyan's case has been separated and is being processed separately.
