Russia to Supply Gas to Iran via Azerbaijan

Russia and Iran have agreed on the route of a gas pipeline running through Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic. Negotiations are currently in the final phase of discussing the price of supplies. The parties are also exploring joint projects for gas extraction, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev told reporters on January 17. This was reported by RBC.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that a project for the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia to Iran is underway, with initial supplies potentially amounting to 2 billion cubic meters, and a subsequent increase up to 55 billion cubic meters.

Additionally, Moscow and Tehran have agreed to expand cooperation in the oil and gas sector and encourage investments in mining development projects.

“The route through Azerbaijan has been agreed upon. We are now in the final phase of negotiations to establish the price. The volumes have already been clarified. Price is always a commercial issue, a search for compromise, so working groups have been formed on both sides, and experts are developing pricing approaches,” the minister stated.
