Azerbaijan Stops Gas Supplies to Serbia

Azerbaijan has notified Serbia about the cessation of gas supplies. This was announced by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, according to Kommerstan.ru. According to him, the halt in supplies is connected to problems at the Shah Deniz gas field, which means that Belgrade can no longer rely on the daily supply of 1.7 million cubic meters of gas.

He stated, "There is no confidence or clarity on how long it will take to restore gas supplies." Vučić added that from today, Serbia will begin to rely more heavily on its own resources.

In a press briefing with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma, Vučić expressed hope that the Azerbaijani side will resolve the issues within one or two months, and that supplies will resume soon.

During the discussion with the U.S. deputy secretary, President Vučić also addressed several issues, including U.S. sanctions against NIS, one of the largest energy companies in Southeast Europe. On January 10, along with Gazprom Neft, NIS was added to the U.S. blacklist.
