EU Responds to Armenia's Membership Application
The European Union will thoroughly examine Armenia's potential membership application. This was announced by the bloc's Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.
"We also hear that there are positive movements towards submitting an application for EU membership. This is a choice, and we must examine all applications very carefully, and we will do the same in the case of Armenia. However, this choice, if Armenia decides to apply, is linked to commitments. I am confident, as is included in my plans, to visit Armenia in the first half of the year to see on the ground what we need to do in advance or what information needs to be exchanged," he noted.
It is worth mentioning that last week the Government approved a draft law on the start of the process for Armenia's membership in the European Union and sent it to parliament for discussion. "After the adoption of this law, we must discuss with the EU the roadmap they envision and the one we envision, and we must develop a roadmap together. In my understanding, until the negotiations on the creation of the roadmap begin, the Republic of Armenia, at least at this moment, has no other actions to undertake. And I say this to properly articulate the expectations within the public," Prime Minister Pashinyan stated.
