That Country Is Our Enemy: Peskov

Lithuania is an unfriendly state, hostile towards Russia and has territorial claims, said Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the President of Russia, to reporters.

"Lithuania is an unfriendly state for our country, a state that is hostile towards us and, among other things, has territorial claims. This justifies our deep concerns and validates all measures currently and in the future for ensuring the security of our state," Peskov noted.

According to the Regnum news agency, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, referred to Nausėda as a 'cardboard fool' over comments regarding Kaliningrad and urged him to study history. She recalled that the capital of Lithuania is named Vilnius, by the decision of Joseph Stalin, who transferred the city of Vilnius and its region to the Lithuanian Republic in 1939, while the largest Baltic port in Lithuania was renamed from Memel to Klaipeda.

State Duma Deputy Alexey Chepan called Nausėda's comments about 'Lithuanian' Kaliningrad a provocation. He remarked that there would be no steps from Vilnius, and Lithuania is unlikely to get involved in complications for fear of 'serious consequences.'
