Waste Collection Fees in Yerevan to Be Calculated Based on Apartment Size: New Decision
The acting head of the revenue accounting and collection department of the Yerevan Municipality, David Hakobyan, presented a new approach to calculating waste collection fees based on the size of apartments. This information was shared during a session of the Yerevan Council, where Hakobyan emphasized that the new methodology does not introduce new principles but modernizes the existing system.
Fees will be calculated based on the apartment's area, allowing for a fairer distribution of waste collection costs. For example, for a one-room apartment, citizens will pay 455 drams instead of 400 drams. In the case of a two-room apartment, the fee will increase from 600 drams to 689 drams; for a three-room apartment, from 900 drams to 975 drams; and for four or more rooms, from 1200 drams to 1287 drams. The increase for individual houses averages 180 drams per dwelling.
The new system takes into account the number of people living in the apartment's area. If more people live in smaller apartments, the fees will decrease. For instance, in a 50 sq. m apartment with five residents, the fee will be lower. On average, the increase for apartments is 80 drams,” Hakobyan stated.
