Old 'Hundai' Buses to Be Replaced with New Ones
Public transport services on 9 routes (numbers 6, 8, 27, 39, 42, 44, 46, 47, 57) that currently operate with old small-class 'Hundai' buses will cease as of January 1, 2025. Their operation will be taken over by 110 of the 171 new buses imported by the community.
This announcement was made by Vazgen Harutyunyan, the head of the transport department of Yerevan Municipality, during the municipal operational meeting.
“A draft decision has been prepared by the Yerevan Municipality to organize the operation of the 171 new 'Zhong Tong' buses imported into the capital. As a part of this plan, the operation of the 9 routes currently served by the old small-class 'Hundai' buses will be terminated effective January 1, 2025, and these will be replaced with new medium-class buses that have double the capacity,” Harutyunyan detailed.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan emphasized the importance of this transition, stating that it is significant to note that the old small-class buses operated by private companies will be completely replaced by new buses, which have a capacity that is twice as much. This change is expected to lead to a substantial improvement in the service on these routes.
“It’s crucial that we increase the fleet on various lines where we have issues. We previously lacked sufficient buses on these routes,” the Mayor added.
