VIDEO: The City Is Not Ready for Expansion at This Rate, Soqiasyan Responded to Avinyan

If the only effective mechanism to curb the rampant pace of construction is the increase in local taxes, the past year has shown that the higher the rates set, the more unrestrained the construction becomes.

This was stated by Manuk Soqiasyan from the 'Mother Armenia' faction during the Yerevan City Council session. He said, 'Experience has shown that merely imposing high local taxes does not restrain construction; instead, the insane development continues in the city, while the municipality gains additional financial revenues. Therefore, the issue is not solely about curbing construction through local taxes but primarily about political will. Most importantly, it is not about developing the city and then adjusting the master plan to fit the existing situation, but rather the years without a master plan that are the issue. The infrastructure collapses we are experiencing indicate that the city is not ready for expansion at this pace.'
