Turkish Minister Sets Timeline for Implementation of the 'Zangezur Corridor' Project

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, addressed the 'Zangezur Corridor' during an interview with Erdoğan Aktaş on TV100. This was reported by Ermenihaber.

In response to a question about when the project for the 224 km Zangezur communication via the Kars-Igdir-Dilucu railway line will begin, Uraloğlu stated: 'Let me start from Baku. There is the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which has been operational since 2017. The other line also starts from Baku, reaching Armenia or Iran; we will discuss this further, and it continues to Kars. This orange line (pointing to the map) has seen completion of works in that segment, and construction work is ongoing from Horadiz to the border with Armenia.'

According to him, the tender for the 224 km section in Turkey has been completed, and work will begin in the spring, depending on weather conditions. In Nakhchivan, there are about 178-180 km to be addressed; part of this will be renovated, while a small section will be newly constructed, with Azerbaijan undertaking work in this area.

Referring to the passage through Armenia, the minister specifically mentioned: 'Azerbaijan is negotiating regarding the 43 km section we call the Zangezur Corridor and the 61 km passage through Iran. After clarifying all of this, we will continue on our path. I believe that in about four years, we will fully realize this corridor.'
