Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to meet with Bashar Assad, the Syrian president who has stepped down from office and received political asylum in Russia. This was announced during a press briefing by Putin's assistant, Yuri Ushakov.

“The president has mentioned during a direct communication that he will consider a meeting with Assad. When this will happen, honestly, I do not know. But since he mentioned it, most likely such a meeting will take place,” Ushakov said.
