Closest Flight to the Sun to Take Place

The Parker probe from NASA will make the closest flight to the Sun in history, coming within 6.1 million kilometers of the celestial body. This event is expected to occur on December 24, according to Axios.

Nick Fink, the mission leader of the Parker Solar Probe, stated, "No human-made object has ever come this close to the Sun." During the approach, communication with the probe will be lost.

Scientists are using the Parker probe to study the heating of the solar corona and the factors that accelerate solar wind, hoping to gain better insight into predicting hazardous space weather changes that disrupt communications on Earth and cause auroras.
