Turkey Is Behind All This, Trump Says

US President Donald Trump believes that Turkey is behind the armed rebel groups that have sought to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He stated that Ankara has "ungraciously invaded" its neighbor. This was reported by the Financial Times.

Trump emphasized during a press conference in Florida that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is "smart and very tough," managing to make Ankara the most significant foreign player in Syria following Assad's downfall.

"No one knows who is behind (the new Syrian authorities), but I know it’s Turkey; they are behind all this. They have wanted this for thousands of years, and now they’ve got it. The people who entered Syria are being controlled by Turkey," Trump said.

He also added that "Turkey is prepared to hold the key to Syria."
