Germany Suspends Applications of Syrian Refugees

Germany has suspended the consideration of asylum applications from Syrians due to the unstable situation in Syria. This was reported to Spiegel by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).

“The situation in Syria is unclear, and it is extremely difficult to predict how events will unfold in this country,” a BAMF representative told the publication. According to him, the current situation in Syria is nearly impossible to assess, and any decision on this matter would be “unstable.”

According to BAMF, there are currently 47,270 asylum applications from Syrians under review. Spiegel notes that German authorities are already discussing the possible expulsion of Syrian refugees back to their home country. In particular, several politicians from the Christian Democratic Union have expressed support for this measure.
