Military Personnel Begin to Leave Parliament Building in South Korea
Some senior military and police officials have refused to comply with President Yoon Seok-youl's order to impose martial law. “The President must immediately lift the martial law in accordance with the parliament's decision, as the martial law is no longer in effect. The military and police must also return to their posts in accordance with the parliament's decision,” said the spokesperson of the South Korean parliament after the voting results.
According to media reports, special forces have begun to leave the parliament building. This is reportedly the shortest martial law in South Korea's history.
As previously reported, protesters have gathered near the parliament in the capital city of Seoul. They are trying to break through the gate and storm the building, as indicated by telegram channels. The country has suspended the operation of the parliament and political parties, and has imposed control over all media.
