Call to Disobey Presidential Orders in South Korea
The leader of South Korea's opposition has called on military personnel and police to disobey the 'unconstitutional and illegal' orders of President Yoon Suk-yeol. This was reported by The Korea Herald.
As previously reported, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced a state of emergency in a televised address to the nation. 'I am declaring a state of emergency to root out pro-North Korean forces and to protect the free constitutional order,' he stated. According to Yonhap, earlier during an emergency meeting with the government, Yoon Suk-yeol had discussed attempts at impeachment.
Several senior military officials and police have refused to comply with President Yoon's order to implement the state of emergency.
