European Council President Charles Michel Transfers Powers to Antonio Costa
The President of the European Council and former Prime Minister of Belgium, Charles Michel, has transferred his powers to former Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa. This was announced on November 29 by the press service of the European Council.
The Portuguese will begin his duties on December 1, when the second commission of the European Union takes office, led by Ursula von der Leyen.
The handover ceremony took place at the European Council’s headquarters in Brussels. Michel wished Costa to 'maintain the unity of the European Union.' At the same time, he cited mass arms supplies to Kyiv and the imposition of anti-Russian sanctions by the EU as his major achievements in this position.
