Biden: We Have Achieved Status Quo with China
US President Joe Biden has announced the achievement of a status quo in the relations between the United States and China. His remarks were quoted by White House reporters.
“We have achieved a status quo with China,” Biden stated, noting that a “direct communication” has been established between the leaders of the two countries as well as their military officials. “I am confident that Chinese President Xi Jinping does not want to make a mistake. I say this sincerely,” Biden added.
At the same time, he mentioned that he had a conversation with three American citizens who were released as a result of a prisoner exchange between the US and China. “I am glad that they are home,” Biden stated.
On Wednesday, the State Department confirmed that the United States and China had exchanged prisoners. The agency announced the release of Mark Sudan, Kai Li, and John Lyu from detention in China. The exchange was carried out in a three-for-three agreement, as reported by Politico.
