Yerevan Residents to Receive Significant Funds for Reaching 100 Years of Age
Residents of Yerevan who reach 100 years of age will receive 1 million AMD as support. This decision was made during a session of the Yerevan City Council. The initiative was proposed by members of the 'Civil Contract' faction, Diana Kerobyan and Natalia Sinyoryan. The aim is to encourage longevity among Yerevan's citizens.
“Considering the current lack of similar support in Armenia, we propose to provide residents of Yerevan, upon reaching their centennial, with a one-time financial assistance of 1,000,000 AMD from the city budget. According to information provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, from 2018 to 2023, 177 Yerevan residents celebrated their 100th birthday, which averages about 30 residents annually. Thus, for approximately 30 residents celebrating their century, the total amount of social support requested from the Yerevan budget would be 30 million AMD,” stated Kerobyan.
Eligible individuals are those who have been officially registered in the city of Yerevan for the last five years at the time of reaching their 100th birthday. The financial support will be distributed in the same manner as the beneficiary's pension, either through a direct bank transfer to the beneficiary's pension card or via the services of 'Haypost'. There is no need for the beneficiary to submit an application or any other documents.
Several council members from the opposition argued that the allocated funds could be used to build parks in Yerevan, which would also promote the longevity of the elderly. Members of the ruling party assured that parks have already been constructed or renovated, with further improvements expected in 2025.
A total of 51 members of the Yerevan City Council voted in favor of the initiative, while 2 abstained.
