How Much Funding is Allocated for New Year Decorations in Yerevan

The Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Suren Grigoryan, has released several figures related to the New Year decorations, stating that in 2022-23, a total of 590 million 999 thousand drams was spent. “This was the year when we invested a lot of money and acquired equipment that we have been using for the third year now,” he said.

For the year 2023-24, the expenditure has reached 626 million 926 thousand drams. “Last year, we also acquired the Christmas market stalls, which we used last year and will use again this year,” he noted.

Grigoryan mentioned that this year, less money is planned to be spent compared to the previous year. “This year we will spend 549 million 706 thousand drams.” He emphasized, “I am convinced that if we want to ensure adequate tourist flow and to provide Yerevan residents with a new celebration experience, we should not necessarily spend more from the budget every year, but rather continue to expand the scope even with the same amount of spending.”

“Currently, we are spending 18 million drams on acquiring some decorations to ensure the tree looks festive. Last year, there was a part that the wider public did not notice; I observed that the branches had thinned out,” Grigoryan stated.

According to him, they will address this issue with the current 18 million drams, adding, “But next year, we will completely renew it.” Grigoryan stressed that they will not be purchasing a new Christmas tree but will be using the one bought in 2018.
